Happy Valley Race Course is the first Hong Kong race track. It is the older of only two horse race tracks in Hong Kong, both managed by the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
This Hong Kong race track was built originally in 1845 on a swampland to provide horse racing for the British people in Hong Kong. The first Hong Kong horse race was run here in December 1846, but the Hong Kong race course was destroyed by a fire in February 1918, a fire that had the highest casualties in Hong Kong history.
The track houses the Hong Kong Racing Museum and is encircled by several football, hockey, and rugby fields.
